Compression of the median nerve at the wrist. Possible symptoms include tingling, numbness and pain in the hand.
Tingling or numbness often affects the thumb, index and middle fingers and the thumb-side half of the ring finger. Symptoms may occur at night.
Osteoarthritis of the thumb carpometacarpal joint, which may cause pain, especially during gripping and loading.
Typical area of pain: the base of the thumb, for example when gripping, twisting or opening containers.
Wear of the joint surfaces in the wrist. Pain and stiffness may occur, particularly during loading or movement.
Wrist symptoms may occur during loading or movement and may be accompanied by stiffness. This differs from osteoarthritis of the thumb base joint.
